How About Those New Year’s Resolutions?

2) Drink some water

For many of us, the most water we’ll drink between waking up and going to bed is whatever we accidently swallow while brushing our teeth. Seriously, something around 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. And for those who are drinking enough water, the volume of dehydrating beverages and foods (coffee, alcohol, and anything high in sodium) we consume more than undoes all that good.

Dehydration makes you tired. Which for most of us leads to an afternoon cup of coffee or soda. Both of these just dehydrate you more all while loading the body with more crap to dump. It also makes you a grumpier and reduces your ability to think clearly. So, by the time you’ve gone dehydrated most of the day and make it home… you might not be in the best frame of mind for say, a screaming baby. Oh, and dehydration also slows down your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight.

So yeah, water’s kind of important. Set up an easy rule for yourself. For instance, 2 glasses of water in the morning, 2 more before 5pm, 2 more before bed. Or just get one giant mug and make it your goal to finish before bed. Whatever works for you, just make sure you’re drinking some water. A good general rule: If your pee isn’t white, you’re not drinking right.
