Adjustable focus flashlights have been around for years and it’s no surprise why. They’re so versatile and convenient, many users really love them. As LED technology advances, so too do LED flashlights. Nowadays, you’ll find flashlights that serve multiple purposes including as a power bank! However, today, we want to focus solely on adjustable focus flashlights. We’ll cover what an adjustable focus flashlight is, what an adjustable focus flashlight is good for, and we’ll talk about the Klarus FX10 flashlight.
What is an Adjustable Focus Flashlight?
For those who may be unfamiliar, an adjustable focus flashlight – or zoomable flashlight – allows you to change the beam pattern from a focused beam to a flood beam. With most adjustable focus flashlights, you’ll either move the head forward and back or twist the head forward and back to adjust the angle of the beam. It’s very simple and very effective, making a zoomable LED flashlight a good choice.
What Would You Use a Zoomable Flashlight For?
First, let’s talk a bit about a flood beam vs a throw beam. A flood beam will have a wide angle of dispersed light which illuminates a large area in front of you. This beam pattern is great for up close work, searching your backyard, outdoor activities such as camping and hiking, and projects around the house.
On the other hand, a throw beam has a focused hotspot where the light shoots through into the distance. This beam is great for hunting, scouting into the distance, search and rescue, and the like. So the ability to access both a throw beam and a flood beam allows you to use the flashlight in significantly more situations. From projects in the house to search and rescue, an adjustable focus flashlight opens a world of possibilities.
Klarus FX10 Zoomable Flashlight
Now it’s time to take a look at one of the best zoomable flashlights on the market today, the Klarus FX10. This LED flashlight is powerful, compact, and versatile making it the ideal adjustable focus light.
1000 Lumen Flashlight
The Klarus FX10 delivers a maximum output of 1000 lumens and is compact enough to be an everyday carry flashlight. 1000 lumens is a great amount of light for an EDC light. It also features a maximum beam distance of 300 meters using the focused beam. With this beam, you can see clearly very far away. To adjust the beam, all you need to do is twist the head of the flashlight forward and back. It’s simple enough, and the two beams provide a lot of versatility. You’re even able to choose a happy middle ground between the focused beam and the flood beam.
On top of that, Klarus FX10 does come with a pocket clip that’s removable as well as a holster so you can easily carry the flashlight wherever you go. This makes the FX10 a great option for professionals on the job, outdoor enthusiasts, and general use flashlight users.
This LED flashlight features a triple switch design with two tail switches and a side switch that functions independently meaning that you can operate the flashlight either with the tail switches or the side switch. With the tail switches, you have a momentary-on, a One-Touch Turbo, and a One-Touch Strobe or a One-Touch Low. With the side switch you have a memory mode and a One-Touch Low. You’re also able to lock out the side switch if you’d rather not use it. Given the shortcuts and the ability to use the side switch or tail switches, you’re able to choose how you’d like to operate the FX10 to your preference
Klarus FX10 Multiple Outputs and Programmable Settings
To add to its versatility, the FX10 LED flashlight features six total outputs which includes four brightness levels ranging from 10 lumens to 1000 lumens, a strobe mode, and an SOS mode. Klarus included multiple outputs so that the FX10 was ready for anything. While it’s nice having 1000 lumens as a turbo, the other brightness levels allow you to better illuminate whatever area you happen to be in. If you’re looking in your car for something you dropped, you really don’t need 1000 lumens. And if you use the turbo in such a small environment, you could temporarily blind yourself.
Klarus also included two programmable settings which are the Tactical Setting and the Outdoor Setting. These settings only affect the tail switches’ operation so the side switch will remain the same no matter which setting you have it in. In the Tactical Setting, you’ll have access to the One-Touch Turbo and the One-Touch Strobe. In the Outdoor Setting, you’ll have access to the One-Touch Turbo and One-Touch Low. It’s easy to switch between settings so if you wanted to keep your flashlight in the Tactical Setting most of the time and switch it to the Outdoor Setting on camping trips, you could easily do that.
The Klarus FX10 is a USB rechargeable flashlight. It features a micro USB port located on the side that is protected by a silicone cover. When you’re charging the flashlight, you can check the charging status by looking at the indicator on the side switch. You’ll notice that it glows red while you’re charging and green when it’s finished. This indicator also functions as a battery level indicator so it will glow a certain color for a few seconds when you first turn the flashlight on. Depending on the color it glows, you can get a good idea of how much charge you have left in your battery. This is especially useful for outdoor activities as well as tactical tasks. When you notice that your battery has a lower voltage, you can decide if it’s time to change the battery or charge the battery.
Speaking of the battery, this LED flashlight can run on a single 18650 battery, two CR123A batteries, or two Klarus 16340 batteries. With high quality LED flashlights, you’ll often see that they are compatible with multiple battery types. It’s always great to be able to choose your power source. However, using CR123A batteries or 16340 batteries may change the output and run times so that is something to keep in mind.
The Klarus FX10 LED flashlight is an impressive and amazing example of an adjustable focus flashlight. Klarus designed the FX10 flashlight to be able to function in just about any environment. It’s also extremely durable, impact-resistant, and waterproof up to IPX8 standards. So if you are looking to get a zoomable flashlight, we highly recommend you check out the Klarus FX10.
